I went to see a midnight showing of Wall•E last night. I was unsure whether Pixar would be able to top Ratatouille, which was – in my opinion – their best work.
I knew Wall•E was going to be good, especially due to the epicness of the trailers they had released. What I wasn't expecting was for it to completely surpass the computer-generated bar that Pixar continues to set.
This movie is a lot of things, not the least of which is fucking cute. There are so many "Awwww" moments in this movie, but they never manage to get old or annoying. I found myself genuinely grinning from ear to ear many times throughout the course of the film.
There are a few little Apple jokes thrown in there as well, which definitely helps considering my technical affiliation.
The big surprise with this movie, though, was how flat-out romantic it was. Wall•E tells the story of a simple robot who travels across the damned galaxy in the name of love. I don't want to get too much into it, for spoilers' sake, but it really shows that when two people (animals, robots) are made for one another, there's no keeping them apart.
Wall•E has proven that Pixar is the best damned animation company on the face of the Earth, and they're not even slowing down.
Also, my wallpaper on my computer (pictured above) makes me happy when I look at it.
